10 Dec Transport Secretary to discuss campaign with partners
Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin has agreed to meet Kingswood MP Chris Skidmore and local partners to discuss proposals for a new junction on the M4 near Emersons Green.
Mr Skidmore raised the issue in the House of Commons, stating that he hopes the proposed M4 link will be included in next year’s Joint Transport Study undertaken by local authorities in the West of England.
It’s expected that the meeting will take place early next year.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Skidmore said: “One of the key campaigns in my constituency to reduce road congestion is for an M4 link to the Avon Ring Road which would involve an extra junction 18A on the M4.
“Next year the Joint Transport Study commissioned by the Local Enterprise Partnership and all the surrounding councils will be looking at how to reduce road congestion in the area and I hope the M4 link will be an integral part of this. Will the Transport Secretary meet with the LEP and local councils and myself to discuss this?”
Patrick McLoughlin MP said he would be happy to meet and added: “I think I have visited the site with [Mr Skidmore] earlier this year and it would open up a large area of potential development which I think is very important to his constituency.”
